Skydiving Locations, Weight Restrictions, and Rules:
Our Locations: Charlevoix Skydive School deploys all Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) and tandem skydive jumps from Charlevoix Municipal Airport. If the location changes for some reason, we will let you know ahead of time. We actually operate out of other airports on occasion, such as Bois Blanc Airport for Mackinac Jumps or Empire Airport over Sleeping Bear Dunes.
Most of our dives occur at Charlevoix Municipal Airport. We run jumps out of Empire on Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. If you'd like to jump from Mackinac Island, this option is available on Wednesdays and through custom appointments. Check out our Mackinac and Sleeping Bear jump pages for more info.
Weight Limit:
How much do you have to weigh to skydive? There's generally no minimum weight requirement to participate. However, you must be under 230 pounds. This includes clothing. All divers are weighed on our scale prior to diving.
At Charlevoix Skydive School, we do charge above our standard price if you weigh over 200 pounds. We encourage you to contact us to inquire about options if you weigh over 230 pounds
SkyDiving Cost and Gear Rental:
How much does it cost to go skydiving when you add it all up? Our dive rates are $249 per person you book online. We require a $75 deposit upon reservation. This deposit counts toward your gear rental. It will be deducted from your bill when you arrive to pay in person. If you cancel less than 48 hours in advance, you'll forfeit your deposit. We also charge a cancellation fee of $25 if you cancel your reservation before 48 hours.
The cost is very reasonable when you choose us. Our normal rate is $299 but booking online or paying in cash offers a discounted rate of $249. Sleeping Bear jumps are always $299 and Mackinac jumps vary between $299 and $499.
Tips for Patiently Preparing for Jump Day:
While we know that you're excited to get this experience started, we want to prepare you for the fact that our jumps are sometimes handled one at a time. This is more common in the later part of summer. If you come with a group, that means that you'll be able to watch your friends. For this reason, we recommend setting the full day aside to enjoy this experience without feeling rushed.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
How old do you have to be to skydive?
You must be 18 years old to legally go skydiving in Michigan. Charlevoix Skydive School adheres to this rule without exceptions. Please be prepared to show valid government-issued ID when you show up for your diving appointment. Spectators may be under 18 years old.
-
What clothing is best for skydiving?
We recommend wearing comfy clothing appropriate for the weather. Jeans, heavy materials, or baggy clothing could restrict your movement. We generally recommend sport-casual attire for this reason. Additionally, athletic shoes and sneakers are recommended for footwear but don’t wear shoes with hooks on them such as hiking boots.
-
How do I become a skydiver?
Every diver started their journey by finding a reputable local drop zone. Generally, drop zones offer tandem dives for beginners that allow you to skydive with an experienced instructor. After getting comfortable doing tandem dives, you can pivot to our advanced training program to become a licensed diver capable of diving solo anywhere in the world! Don't hesitate to reach out to us to get information on where to begin!
-
Will I be able to breathe while freefalling in a skydive?
Yes! It's a misconception that you should hold your breath while you skydive. However, wind will rush around you, which can make it hard to maintain a normal breathing pace. One of our skilled instructors can teach you some freefall breathing techniques to assist you in making your dive more comfortable.
-
Can I get videos or photographs of my jump?
Yes! Our team can provide you with video footage of your jump. We also edit videos with music and tape a pre-jump interview to leave you with a professional-quality mini-documentary of your jump. We also offer high-definition still photos.
-
Will you let me bring my GoPro during a tandem jump?
This decision actually isn't up to us. Student skydivers are not allowed to jump with video or photography equipment. This rule only applies to student skydivers. Our videographers and instructors are allowed to record your experience for you.
